Whether you need just a little help or virtually depend on other people to survive when in your sunset years, living in an assisted living community is an excellent idea. At our community, we first find out the degree of help you need, and then assign team members to make sure that you are always catered for. This makes for a much higher quality of life and a happier life. It’s important to have everything you need when moving into a senior assisted living community to make it easier for both you and our team members to keep you healthy and properly served. One common point is to pack everything you need in advance so that you don’t forget anything important. This might sound obvious but is easier said than done. Some of the tips to help you pack include:
Your Furnishings
Though we have the capacity to furnish your apartment to your taste, having familiar furnishings can make it feel more homely. You can identify the things that you might need at the community including sofas, kitchenware, keepsakes and artwork. Many times, you will have large pieces of furnishing that you aren’t sure you want to move. Visiting the apartment you are to move in prior to doing so and having the floorplan will help in determining whether or not it would be worth moving with large pieces of furnishing. Our team members are on hand to help you out with this. When moving with furnishings, it’s vital to have them handled gently to ensure they reach the destination intact.
Compile a List of Your Necessities
When planning to move in to a retirement community, ensure that you know what is necessary in your life and then write it down. This will make it easier to prioritize to move them before any other items. Necessities are things that you can’t do without including appliances that may not be in the apartment, alarm clocks and assistive devices. The latter include hearing aids, walkers and canes to assist you in walking if you use one. You could also consider your favorite books and magazines as necessities.
Once again, ensuring that you know the apartment’s floor plan will be ideal in helping you more efficiently. An example is if you consider something to be a necessity but is already in the apartment. In this case, you could choose to not pack it since it will only increase the number of things you need to unpack, making the entire process miserable.
Clothing
It is important to pack clothing that will keep you comfortable throughout your stay. Since our community is located in Palm Beach Florida, you can expect the weather to be friendly throughout most of the year. You therefore don’t need a lot of heavy winter clothing. To get some usable advice, you can contact one of our team members who can help you decide on what to pack and what to leave behind as far as clothing is concerned.
